Life in Singapore

Living in Singapore is quite an adventure. Although if you are into nightlife and so on, then you will most probably get sick of the limited avenues available, if not the sky high prices even sooner.

To be frank, I lived overseas for almost 10 years and I must say that there is not place like home. Yes, Australia has great scenery and also nice weather. And yes Japan has gret weather and really nice places...... Actually the char bor are even better. (Thats why I married one). However, Singapore does have its perks and so on. I am not speaking like a patriot or so on. I have done my time in NS and have gone through the shit everyone goes through, but that is not the reason why I chose to come back. It was where I was born, where I grew up for most of my life and also where food is so available. Imagine living in Perth, if you get the muchies or heavens forbid, your pregnant wife (oh yeah.... don think my wife preg yet hor) wants to eat something in the middle of the night, yo have to put on your going out clothes, drive all the way to God knows where just to be able to buy food. I can still remember the times we flew to Fremantle in Perth to eat at the 24hr place.

In Japan, food is even harder to find, though the neighbourhood convenience store does have a pretty good variety. Some even have Oden. But not many shops remain open till after 1am unless it is a drinking place.

The adventure I find in Singapore is I have lots of fun having a laugh at people with phoney accents, people who think that they are too great and or people who just are too full of themselves. Prime example will most probably be the SPG who struts around like a peacock showing her ang mo boy boy and speaks with a fake American accent though you could have sworn on your own grave dat 5 years ago she was an Ah lian who would tell you confidently that the "G" button in the lift is not for ground but for "Gero" (pronounced as jeero). You may also reminice about how cute she was as a teenager.... and she will snap back with a fake American accent.... "Oh thats a long time ago......den wif a cringing face...."lah"" (chuckles..... I love singlish)

There are also dickheads who think nothing about other people but only for themselves. Taking up spaces for 2 cars for their own..... pushing others so that they can go faster and so on. In this world where the sun will always rise from the east and sets in the west, if we do things slow and easy, we will surely succeed. But if we do it and in so doing hurt others, then the success will be short lived.

As a society, perhaps because we are young nation, we are also all very immature. It could also be because of our upbringing, however, lets face it this way ladies and gentlmen, if we think we are big, there are always bigger fishes around. I we think we are smart, we just have not been cheated yet. No matter whether we have a degree, speak in the Queen's English with an Oxford accent or what, we are still very farbehind many countries. Though we may claim to be a first world nation, we are still very backward in many ways.

And that is the fun of living in Singapore. You live in a lie, in a world that is sheltered and that is false. When we go out into the world, we will see how much bigger it is and how much more daunting life is outside. But of course, we also do not want to try to prove ourselves and bigger and better lah... be simple and humble and if we fall, we will not fall so far.

One prime example will be the proud owner of WRx's. They have bloody loud mufflers and can be heard from over a mile away... oops sorry, we in Singapore so we have to go metic.... kilometers away...... yet, sometimes, when I chase their asses all the way from traffic ligh to traffic light, (provided the road is clear hor) they get frustrated and sometimes a bit ashamed because a 1.8 litre turbo can keep up with a 2.5litre super car. My car does not God loud exhaust... it has no extra engine capacity or different engine. I did not modify too much of it too. Yet I can keep up. Small is not bad...... being small may not mean not being to do what the big boys do..... Moral of the story, speak with a soft voice, but carry a big stick......

Cheers and peace out.
